Environmental Analysis & Sampling



Standard Laboratories, Inc. maintains well-equipped environmental laboratories at a number of its branch facilities. These laboratories routinely provide sampling and analysis of ground and surface water, wastewater, soil, and overburden. Low level analyses and specialty analytical services are available.

The procedures used are based on approved methodology from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, American Public Health Associations, American Society for Testing and Materials, International Standard Organization, Standard Methods, and other recognizable authorities. All new procedures are approved by the office of the Technical Director after a period of research and development testing. Procedures are periodically reviewed and updated.

All sampling, sample preparation, and sample analysis is performed according to the the companywide ISO compliant Quality Control and Quality Assurance program to establish protocols. A modern Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) package provides sophisticated management of high-quality analytical data. The LIMS provides for sample log-in, tracking, data review and reporting. The system will alert users to permit excursions, allowing clients to identify and correct problems faster. The laboratory is staffed by experienced professionals to assure accurate work.

Services cover a broad range of federal and state monitoring, and testing requirements in a number of matrices including water, soil, mixed waste, limestone, sludge and overburden.

Capabilities include:
  • Analysis for low level organics by GC, GC/MS, HPLC and IR.
  • Analysis for metals by flame and furnace AA, ICP and ICP-MS.
  • Analysis for a number of inorganic constituents.
QA/QC is an integral part of daily analysis. The program includes blanks, surrogate spikes, matrix spikes, reference standards and replicate sample analysis. The laboratories regularly participate in EPA Performance Evaluation Studies, Independent Performance Audits, and Inter-laboratory comparisons.
